Mrs Ross gave birth last week to a healthy baby daughter. The first night at home she wasn’t settling, and at 4 am yours truly was sent out on an expedition to find baby formula.
Got onto the Coles website to check for the closest 24 hour Coles. Closest one is Dandenong, which isn’t exactly close (later found out that the Coles in Glen Huntly Road, Elsternwick is open 24/7), so gave 7-11 a try. Headed down to the 7-11 on Grange Road, but no luck there. Then headed over to the 7-11 at the end of Darling Road in East Malvern, but they were sold out. The shop assistant then told me that the Woolworths on the corner of High Street and Warrigal Road in Ashwood is open 24 hours. He was right. Aside from the drunk fellow who spent 5 minutes trying (unsuccessfully) to remember his PIN at the checkout, I was the only customer, but it meant my early morning expedition was a success. I have driven past the Ashwood Woolworths/Safeway many times, but hadn’t realised it was open 24 hours. I had a look on the Internet when I got home to see if there are any other 24 hour Woolworths/Safeways that are closer, but couldn’t find any. That said, in the scheme of things it doesn’t take too long to get to Ashwood – particularly at 4 in the morning!
