Carnegie once extended to East Malvern …

Of course we all know that Dandenong Road separates Carnegie from the more well to do East Malvern.

It isn’t unknown for some of those who live up in the northern part of Carnegie to advertise homes for sale under “Carnegie/East Malvern”, and the Federal Member for Higgins (which extends through to Toorak) did claim when being interviewed on ABC Radio that she was not out of touch with the common person because part of her constituency included Carnegie. Well, I thought readers might be interested in the map below (from the State Library of Victoria website) which reveals that, at least 100 years ago, parts of East Malvern were regarded as part of Carnegie. If only land could still be bought with a $10 deposit …
