What about the bluestone?

Like much of older Melbourne, I think part of the character of Carnegie comes from its bluestone lanes and guttering. I was sorry to see that as part of the Council’s work going on in Kokarrib Road, the street next to Safeway, the bluestone guttering has been removed and replaced with ordinary old concrete. On the other side of Dandenong Road, when Macgregor Street was remade, their council relaid the bluestone guttering; although using a mortar to give a neater look. Why couldn’t that have been done in Kokaribb Road?
